E-Cat NGU Update: SSM Returns to Center Stage
New patents, major Self Sustaining Mode (SSM) progress, and a more defined timeline for the long-awaited E-Cat presentation.
Since our last update on May 24, the discussion surrounding Andrea Rossi’s E-Cat NGU appears to have shifted in a meaningful way.
For much of the past year, the conversation centered on reliability improvements, industrial heat applications, manufacturing readiness, and the long-awaited public presentation.
Those topics remain important.
But recent comments suggest that Self-Sustain Mode (SSM) has once again become the primary focus of development.
And according to Rossi, significant progress may have been made.
Rossi Narrows the Timeline
One of the most notable developments since our last update is Rossi’s willingness to provide a more specific timeline for the next major milestone.
While previous comments often referenced broad targets such as “within one year” or “within 2026,” Rossi recently stated that he hopes the public presentation and the beginning of sales could occur within the December 2026 to January 2027 timeframe.
Importantly, Rossi emphasized that this should not be interpreted as a commitment.
Instead, he described it as a goal dependent upon the outcome of ongoing SSM development, endurance testing, and certification work.
Even so, the statement represents one of the most specific timelines provided in recent months and may indicate growing confidence that the project is moving toward a final decision.
SSM Is Back at the Front of the Line
One of the biggest changes over the past several weeks is Rossi’s renewed focus on Self-Sustain Mode.
When asked about the latest SSM effort, Rossi stated that the team is “close, but still not there.”
He also estimated roughly a 70% probability that the current approach will succeed, while noting that additional testing remains necessary before a final determination can be made.
According to Rossi, the team should know within approximately four months whether the current pathway is viable.
If successful, endurance testing and safety certification would still be required before commercial release.
Perhaps most notably, Rossi has stated that dramatic improvements have been achieved in recent weeks and that progress continues daily.
New Patents Are Coming
Another noteworthy development is Rossi’s confirmation that new patent filings are being prepared.
When asked directly whether the latest developments could result in additional intellectual property, Rossi responded:
“New patents are coming.”
No technical details have been disclosed.
However, the statement suggests that whatever solution is currently being evaluated may involve developments beyond what has previously been discussed publicly.
A Possible Shift Toward Direct AC Output
Recent comments also point toward a potentially important change in how future E-Cat systems may operate.
For much of the recent discussion, Rossi emphasized resistive-load applications and heat-producing systems.
Now, Rossi has stated that if the new SSM effort succeeds, future E-Cat systems could provide standard 110/230 VAC output at 50/60 Hz frequencies.
He also indicated that users would be able to connect ordinary electrical devices directly to the system.
When asked whether successful SSM would allow applications beyond simple resistive loads, Rossi answered:
“Yes.”
Several follow-up questions regarding the technical implementation were met with Rossi’s usual response that the details remain restricted and will be disclosed at the public presentation.
The Presentation Appears Increasingly Important
The public presentation remains one of the most closely watched aspects of the project.
Recent comments suggest it will be considerably more than a simple progress report.
According to Rossi, technical specifications, pricing information, product characteristics, available options, and ordering details are expected to be disclosed at that time.
He has also reiterated that preorder holders will be contacted according to the date of their original submission and will have the option to either confirm or cancel their preorder before any money changes hands.
Rossi also confirmed that earlier 10-watt preorder holders are expected to be offered the opportunity to transition to 100-watt systems.
A Heat-Only Alternative Remains Available
At the same time, Rossi has made clear that a deployment pathway still exists even if SSM requires additional development.
He recently explained that a heat-producing version of the E-Cat, based on converting generated electrical output into useful thermal energy, remains available as an alternative path.
However, recent comments suggest that SSM continues to be viewed as the preferred objective.
This may help explain why presentation timing now appears increasingly linked to the outcome of the ongoing SSM effort.
What Has Actually Changed?
The most important takeaway from the recent discussions is not that commercialization has arrived.
It hasn’t.
The most important change is that the conversation has shifted away from deployment logistics and back toward a potentially critical technical breakthrough.
For much of the last year, SSM appeared to be one of the largest unresolved challenges facing the project.
Today, Rossi is openly discussing:
A new SSM pathway
New patents
Direct AC output
Defined testing timelines
Daily engineering progress
And a more specific target window for presentation and sales
Whether these developments ultimately lead to independently verified commercial systems remains the central unanswered question.
But compared to where the discussion stood just a few months ago, SSM has clearly returned to the forefront of the E-Cat NGU story.
The next several months may prove to be among the most important periods in the project’s history.
